Volunteer
Most teachers in OMTA Portland would agree that the best way to meet and network with your fellow colleagues is to volunteer for OMTA Portland. We always need teachers who are willing to step up, take on a leadership role, and help keep our organization running at its best. See the list below for the latest volunteer opportunities.

Portland West Hills needs Syllabus co-chair
Suzanne Savaria has graciously agreed to chair Syllabus for the Portland West Hills region for the 2009-2010 season. Please thank Suzanne for her willingness and enthusiasm. However, because she is new to the job, she would really like someone to co-chair with her. If you are willing to help Suzanne chair Syllabus, please contact LaRayne Rowland, 503-648-1062 or

OCI Representative Needed
Oregon Creative Industries — you may have read the fine article on OCI in the December 14 Oregonian. OMTA members are active in the creative industry, and we have been invited to be involved in OCI. I am looking for a representative from OMTA. Duties would include attending OCI meetings, either online or in person. The challenge for us is that their meetings tend to be scheduled during our normal teaching hours. If you are interested, visit the OCI website to learn more about this budding collaborative, and contact Susan Todd, OMTA state president, at 503-515-2670 or email

Become the Voice of OMTA Portland
Social networking is currently one of the hottest ways to spread the word about your business or organization. In an effort to raise awareness of our group, OMTA Portland is interested in creating and maintaining a profile on popular social networking sites such as Facebook and Twitter. We are looking for a Social Networking Chair to act as the head administrator on these sites. Duties would include posting news and “twittering” about upcoming events/accomplishments/whatever, posting congratulatory notes about the successes of our students/teachers, and accepting “fans” or “followers” (such as students, parents, and teachers). The ideal candidate would already know (or is willing to learn) how to operate in a social networking environment. If you’re interested in becoming the voice of OMTA Portland, please email Joy Novak,
