Are you ready to become a member of Oregon's finest, largest, and most well-established music teachers organization? Active membership in OMTA may be granted to those with a baccalaureate degree in music or a two-year music pedagogy certificate from an accredited school, college or conservatory of music. Two years' experience teaching music is a prerequisite for application. If you do not meet the requirements for active membership, you may apply for provisional membership. Provisional membership grants you access to our programs while you work toward qualifying for active membership. This prestigious distinction is awarded to applicants who meet rigorous standards in music theory, history, pedagogy, and performance. Network and Trade Ideas with Other Teachers OMTA Portland holds regular meetings several times per year. These meetings provide you with a network of local music teachers with whom you can share successes, trade ideas, and refer students. The meetings also feature lectures and workshops about teaching and performing music. These workshops are led by Portland's most knowledgeable artists and pedagogues. Stay CurrentYour membership includes a subscription to American Music Teacher. Published six times a year, this major music journal is packed with inofrmation and advice about the latest news, trends, and issues facing music teachers today. You will also receive the Oregon Musician and have access to Music News. Published bi-annually, the Oregon Musician magazine contains practical teaching advice from OMTA's most knowledgeable members. Music News is OMTA's bi-monthly newsletter, which keeps you informed about upcoming state and national events, awards, contests, and news from OMTA chapters all over the state. Learn from the BestOMTA and MTNA each present annual conferences featuring nationally and internationally renowned artists and pedagogues in workshops, lecture demonstrations, and recitals. These conferences enable you to connect with music professionals from all over the nation and learn from the most dynamic and successful individuals in the music business.
